It’s been a busy month at ÆtherCzar, driven largely by interest in the soon to be released Atlas Shrugged movie and in full-body scanner technology and safety.
- The month began with a preview of John Aglialoro’s film adaptation of Ayn Rand’s Atlas Shrugged. Part One of the planned trilogy is due out sometime early next year. Later in the month, ÆtherCzar also featured an interview with screenwriter Brian O’Toole. Aglialoro personally financed the film so that the story could be told without studio pressure to make the movie more “Hollywood-friendly.”
- How Full-Body Scanners Work – and Fail provided an overview of the technology. How X-Ray Backscatter Full-Body Scanners Work examined the relevant patents to see how X-ray scanners function. ÆtherCzar looked at the safety of X-ray scanners in Are Backscatter X-Ray Scanners Harmful? and Latest on X-Ray Backscatter Safety. ÆtherCzar also provided three collections of updates and links. Finally, ÆtherCzar passed on A Comprehensive Update on Body Scanners from Bruce Schneier and Bruce Schneier Interview – Security Theater and the TSA – Popular Mechanics.
- Could a Real-Time Location Systems Start-Up “Change the Way We Live?” John Brandon thinks Q-Track’s NFER® technology has that potential.
- In A Little Baby Bowl Makes a Big Difference, ÆtherCzar described how an ergonomic bowl cut children’s feeding times in half in a preliminary study.
- ÆtherCzar provided the usual collection of updates on RTLS, RFID, and other wireless topics.
- In Robert Byrne’s 1977 novel, The Tunnel, an American engineer must overcome the objections of environmentalists as well as the machinations of terrorists to complete a tunnel under the English Channel on time and under budget. Robert Byrne also graciously commented on the ÆtherCzar review of his novel, Skyscaper.
- ÆtherCzar presented LED Bugs: An Easy Craft Project for Children.
- Is Geo-Location a Passing Fad? The New York Times thinks so. ÆtherCzar respectfully disagrees.
