A few quick updates, while I recover from Wireless Wednesday on Twitter:
- New Scientist explains the history of complex numbers in a fascinating piece, “Putting the ‘i’ in iPods.” But since the iPod is more an accomplishment of engineering instead of physics, shouldn’t it be called the” jPod?” To learn more about complex numbers and their history, I highly recommend Paul Nahin’s excellent An Imaginary Tale: The Story of ‘i.’
- From the Intellectual Property Made Simple Department, Dan Shapiro has a great blog post explaining how to read a patent in sixty seconds or less.
- Skyhook Wireless – a leader in WiFi based location – has filed suit against Google for patent infringement and interference with their business. Hat Tip: Om.
- Zebra Enterprise Solutions launches Dart Ultra-Wideband Real-Time Locating System
- Precyse Technologies, received the Frost & Sullivan 2010 Technology Innovation of the Year Award for its N3 asset network standard in the Real-Time Location Systems category.
- More on the lobbying for and against the FM radio mandate on cell phones, from Matthew Lasar at Ars Technica.
- Finally, the full story behind the “Wireless Wednesday” phenomenon on Twitter.

Blasphemy! If physicists Grünberg and Fert hadn’t discovered giant magnetoresistance, the engineers would just be spinning their wheels . . . er, platters.
