You can read my science fiction thriller, The Hidden Truth, for free when you sign up now for Kindle Unlimited through Amazon. Amazon will give you a free thirty-day trial of Kindle Unlimited. If you continue in Kindle Unlimited after your 30-day free trial, you’ll be billed $9.99.
How does it work?
Once you are enrolled, you’ll be able to choose from a wide range of Kindle books participating in the program. Amazon pools all the money paid by Kindle Unlimited readers and then divvies it out to Kindle Unlimited authors, like me, based on the number of pages read. Lately, the payout has been about a half cent per page. So if you read The Hidden Truth with its “426” pages (that’s Kindle’s calculation – the print version is actually 276) I’ll be paid about $2.13. Now that’s not as much as I make if you buy the Kindle edition outright for $3.99. But it’s still a great deal for me as an author. First, if you don’t have to pay anything extra, you’re more likely to take a chance on a first novel by an “unknown” author. Second, I’ve planted subtle clues throughout the book, including many details that can only be appreciated if you have already read the book once and know how it’s going to end. I figure many of my readers will be wanting to read the book more than once, and I’ll get paid each time you read it.
I signed up for Kindle Unlimited myself a few months back, and I found it’s a great value. I’m delighted to be able to participate now as an author in as well as a reader. Hope you’ll take advantage of this opportunity!
Update: Alas, Kindle Unlimited doesn’t work that way. Authors are only paid for the first time you read a page in their book, and receive nothing if you go back and reread it.
