The Winslow Boy (1999) Drama 104 min.
Dir: David Mamet Stars: Nigel Hawthorne, Jeremy Northam, Rebecca Pidgeon, Guy Edwards.
Blurb: When a young naval cadet (Edwards) is expelled for petty theft, his father (Hawthorne) seeks the assistance of a distinguished barrister (Northam) and raises a political furor by insisting that his son be given a fair trial.
Comments: I was introduced to this story by seeing the 1948 version. I thought the 1948 version was great, but this is absolutely stunning! Mamet’s 1999 version is more subtle, reserved, and ultimately more appealing. This is the best portrayal of integrity I’ve ever seen in a film.
